How to Make the Most Out of the Day

We all relish the wind rushing through our hair on mountaintops, watching sunlight fade into the layers of mountains around us. We can feel it in our bones, that need to be somewhere else, that need to escape.

We dream of big mountain summits, days spent paddling slow on sunlit lakes, long nights fireside beneath a sky full of stars. It fills our veins with a desire to be nowhere else but there, but sadly life calls to us.

Life shatters those sunny lunches on mountain summits and lazy days spent in hammocks on the shores of a lake.

Most days we can't spend doing the things that we want, so after work we lounge around and forget about who we are. I get that way, I'm too tired I tell myself, I can wait for my day off. The more I do that, the more I feel trapped, like I'm not doing the things I love.

Utilizing Sunlight

At the end of the day we get lazy, but if you want to not just do the things you love on your odd days off, utilize those sunlight hours.

Don't forget you can go for a quick paddle after work, or go for a run or walk on local trails.

I've been reevaluating how I do things, how I limit myself. Increased stress, more work, makes me tired and not want to do anything after work. That sends me into a spiral of regret, of feeling unmotivated to do the things I love to do.

The more I do, the more motivated I feel, the more creative I feel. If I don't get out, make the most of my time, I feel ensnared by my own decisions, by my own life. I feel helpless, like I can't make my own choices.

Going exploring or for walks even for an hour lifts my spirits, helps me get through the week, setting aside time before the sun sets gives me the drive I need.

Restructuring Your Time

If you don't want to wait for the weekend, if you don't have many days off, restructure your time to make the most of what you love.

It's tough, it takes a lot of sacrifices, I fall out of it time and time again, but finding out what you don't need and cutting it out of your week helps fix this problem.

Late night Netflix binges and late starts to the day don't need to happen more than once in a while. Forcing yourself to go to bed early and wake up early can help you get a jump on the day, wake up to watch the sunrise sweep over the world, turning it gold and fresh and new.

As soon as you get out of work just go out and do what you want to do.

On Friday nights drive to the mountains and sleep in your car. You can get the most out of a day spent in the wild by giving yourself more time there.

There are so many little things that you can adapt to your life to make the most of it, so many things you can cut out to make those big dreams happen.

We all have hard times making sacrifices, but that's what it is.

In the end, if you can make it work, if you can start to do more of the things you love, it's worth it.
